Laser Cutting Services
As a maker, I have often used laser shops, and generally speaking, most shops are not always especially accommodating to the needs of knife makers or they do not always know what it is that knife makers need. They often require machine-ready CAD drawings in order to be willing to work with you. Eventually I learned the skills needed to draw my own CAD files and got to quantities that worked for the laser shops. But very recently I have been able to acquire my own laser cutter and I hope to provide the kind of service that I had a very difficult time finding.
Service includes-
Help with CAD work (we can turn you picture or drawling into a CAD file that we can cut)
We will provide the steel and, to start out, we will only be supplying 1/8" finish MagnaCut.
We will surface grind the blanks to remove mill scale and burrs.
Shipping will be included in the price.
Pricing and quotes will be simple, and you can do your own calculation to get an estimated idea of what the service costs (see below).
Minimum order: $250.
Pricing made simple
Pricing works as follows:
Take your knife blank or scale drawing and draw a rectangle around it. Ensure the rectangle is the smallest possible that the knife can fit into. Also, make sure it is a rectangle with four right angles and not a trapezoid.
Measure the length and the height of the rectangle as close as you can get to two decimal places.
Multiply the length by the height to arrive at the number of square inches.
Multiply those square inches by the rate for the given steel and thickness right now that is $3.75 per sq inch for .125” MagnaCut.
At first, this may not sound simple, but once you do it a couple of times, I think you'll find it's pretty easy. We'll help verify those numbers ultimately, but it allows you to get a very early sense of what you want might cost. We are not seeking to be the cheapest steel supplier or the cheapest laser cutting shop, but we strive to offer a high-quality service at a fair price.

Example 2- 6.91” X 1.28”= 8.84 square inches
8.84 X $3.75 = $33.15 Each
